WOODGRAIN RELIEF PRINTING

Often mesmerised by tree rings and their patterns, I quickly became fascinated by the relief printing of such and was drawn to the art form and all it inspires - presenting an intricate and somewhat hypnotic organic signature of our most endearing and vital plants (often sacred, enthroned in legend and harbouring spiritual gateways).

My aim at the moment is to predominately use woodcuts/ logs/ cookies from National Trust sites. Though just recently a local farmer also provided me with access to his yard and wood storage.

Only felled, fallen or sustainably managed trees will be used. That said, if a narrative can be attached to the woodcut, then many other sources may become of interest. For example, those felled to allow for a by-pass or obtrusive built structure resulting in significant loss of habitat for wildlife would merit the craft and energy to record their time.
